Padel Gear

The right gear will not make you a strong player in one match, but it can make the start more comfortable. For a beginner in padel, the most important things are control, safety, and ball feel, not maximum power.

What to buy first

You do not need to buy everything for your first games. Many clubs rent rackets, and balls can often be bought on site.

Priorities:

  • Comfortable sports shoes.
  • Rental or a basic padel racket.
  • Padel balls.
  • Grip or overgrip.
  • Bag and accessories if you start playing regularly.

How to choose your first racket

A beginner is usually better off with a round or hybrid racket with a large sweet spot. It forgives more mistakes and helps control the ball.

What to look at:

  • shape: round for control, diamond for power, hybrid as a compromise;
  • weight: a lighter racket is easier on the arm, a heavier one can add power;
  • balance: lower balance is more comfortable for control;
  • stiffness: softer models are more comfortable at the start;
  • level: do not buy a professional racket only because of the brand.

Shoes

Padel shoes must support lateral movements. Running shoes are often a poor fit because they are designed for forward motion, not sharp changes of direction.

If you play regularly, shoes can be more important than an expensive racket. They affect stability, knee safety, and confidence in movement.

Balls

Padel balls look similar to tennis balls, but they have different pressure and bounce characteristics. For training, it is better to have a separate can of balls because old balls quickly change the pace of the game.

Affiliate transparency

In future reviews, PadelHalo may use affiliate links. This means the site can receive a commission if a reader buys a product through such a link. Gear evaluation must remain independent: we explain who a model suits and who should choose something else.
